The Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency on Friday celebrated her two years anniversary with a special parade at Elegbeta Sports Complex, Ebute-Ero.
The Chairman, Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency, DIG Israel Ajao (Rtd.) while addressing the safety corps members at the event commended them for their efforts and encouraged members of the public to assist the agency with information.
According to Ajao, the agency feeds on information which is processed and utilised in synergy with the police to ensure that the state is safe.
“We urge residents to partner with us as we feed on information gathered to function effectively. Do not keep quiet until you are in danger before giving out information. We have confidentiality now and the help lines are toll free.
“Although we have challenges but challenges are meant to be solved. There is no day I don’t speak with the Lagos State Commissioner of Police as we always share intelligence.
“We have identified cultism as a crime growing among the youths. We discovered that the victims are usually tools waiting to be initiated. This is why we are lick starting a program themed: The Change in Lagos begins with me.
“We will be visiting schools in the state from primary to tertiary to educate students on the evils of cultism. Those initiated will be enlightened and those that choose to be adamant will face the full wrath of the law. he said.
The retired DIG added that LSNSA will be taking security in the state to the next level and emphasised that the agency is not a ceremonial outfit but a security outfit.
Ajao commended the state government for the support rendered to the agency and encouraged officers of the agency not to relent in discharging their responsibilities which is providing security.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu who was represented by ACP Bode Ojajuni, the Area Commander, Area A, Lion Building also commended the officers for their discipline.
He said that the police and the LSNC has the best form of partnership as they brainstorm together, go on patrol together and also have a post at every police station.
“The LSNC were excellent in the last election and I commend them. This is one of the best partnership the police is having. I have worked with them so i know how disciplined they are.
“I get situation reports from your office regularly and the CP is delighted to work with you” Ojajuni said.
The Chairman, Lagos Island East, Comrade Kamal Salau-Bashua who was a special guest at the event advocated for the institutionalization of the LSNA and urged members if the public to support the agency.
The Chairman commended the officers for their professionalism and collaborating with police in making Lagos Island a less volatile area.
He added that the security enjoyed in Lagos today is as a result of information gathered and that security agencies in the state should be commended for their efforts.
Head, Law Enforcement Training Institute, (LETI) Prince Adebowale Ojora also emphasised the importance of training for the officers and encouraged them to put all they learn into practice.
Ojora said that the training carried out by the institute is streamlined with best global practice and all that is required of the is to be civil in discharging their responsibilities.
He commended the state government for their support and added that the least that can be done by the Lagos State Neighborhood Corps is to be diligent in their collective responsibility to ensure that the state is safe.
